Post Falls, "Idaho's River City", is located four miles east of the Washington-Idaho border along Interstate 90 in Kootenai County, at an altitude of 2,150 Feet above sea level and is bounded by Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to the east, the State of Washington to the west, the Spokane River to the south and the Rathdrum prairie to the north. Post Falls is 20 miles east of Spokane, Washington and approximately 100 miles south of the Canadian border.
Post Falls is close to the large metropolitan city of Spokane, Washington that provides all of the necessary amenities for shopping, medical, cultural and business activities. Post Falls offers an atmosphere of small town living due to it's close proximity to a large number of lakes, rivers and mountains. Post Falls is an inviting place to live and a perfect place to buy your next home. Post Falls has also become a favored retirement community. Tourism and retail is a major part of the economy in Post Falls, with an increasing number of retail, dining and entertainment businesses locating in the City. Kootenai County traditionally has been a timber-based economic community. However, manufacturing is on the rise in Post Falls. Jobs Plus, Inc., the local economic development organization has recruited several small to medium sized firms to the County. Manufacturing jobs are currently found primarily in electronics, lumber and furniture.

Post Falls homeowners enjoy a wide range of recreational activities, including: hiking, skiing, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, golf on championship courses, river rafting and horseback riding.
Post Falls has four distinct seasons. Summer, Winter, Spring and Fall, with temperatures ranging in the 90's midsummer and low teens during the Winter. Post Falls averages 29 inches of rain and 49 inches of snow.
Coeur D’Alene wa named when French traders tried to bribe the local Indians with trinkets in exchange for valuable pelts. The Indians could not be fooled and refused to trade. The trappers thought they were "hard-hearted" and sharp as an awl. Coeur D'Alene Translates to "heart of the awl". Fort Coeur D’Alene or "Fort Sherman" as it’s now known was founded in 1876. |
